TOWN Ladies’ hopes of an FA Women’s Cup run were ended by a 4-1 second-round defeat against Middlesbrough.
Town were three down by half-time in the tie played at Thornaby, and while Emily Heckler headed home from Laura Windle’s cross in the 55th minute, Boro bagged a fourth.
Town keeper Laura Carter prevented a heavier defeat with some good saves, and will aim for another solid display in Sunday’s Northern Women’s Combination game against Leeds City Vixens at Warrenside (2.00).
Town reserves made the West Riding League Cup quarter-finals with a 4-3 win over higher-level opponents Wakefield reserves.
Alice Linsell (2), Emma Poole, and Georgia Hamilton scored for Town, who have a league game at Brayton Belles on Sunday (2.00).

Hamilton put Town ahead after seven minutes and Nicole Pachniuk doubled the lead before half-time.
Jodie Berry scored two goals in quick succession early in the second half, then after Linsell counted, completed he hat trick.
Midfielder Bex Moore was player of the match for Town, who travel to Sheffield United Community Ladies to face their red team on Saturday (11.00).
The Under 15s fought back from two down to force a 3-3 draw at Aston Swallownest with goals by Jess Holland (2) and Niamh O’Dea.
The Under 13s romped to a 9-0 win at Crosspool Juniors.
Ella Harris hit a hat trick and Imogen Pow got two while Kacey Buckley, Claudia Smith-Calvert, Tara Duce and player of the match Laura Walker also scored.
