HUDDERSFIELD Town Ladies completed their second season in the Northern Women’s Combination League in sixth place) ending their campaign with a 3-1 home defeat by champions South Durham & Cestria.

Town should have taken the lead on eight minutes when Sofie Armitage was denied by the Durham keeper and Charlotte Oates in Town’s goal was called into action five minutes later and made a good low stop.

Alice Linsell headed just wide on 15 minutes and on 24 minutes Emily Heckler had a shot blocked, but Town had to withstand Durham pressure with the back four coping well.

However, on 34 minutes a ball over the top was latched onto by Scottish Under 19 international Zoe Ness who calmly finished to put the visitors ahead.

Town came back strongly and only an excellent save from the Durham keeper kept them ahead when Abbie Mullen’s header was tipped over the bar.

Ness almost increased Durham’s lead with two minutes of the half remaining but her shot was headed over by Kate Mallin.

Durham’s pressure paid off in the second half when a corner was turned into Town’s own net after 65 minutes.

With 15 minutes remaining Heckler was upended by the Durham keeper and she made no mistake from the spot to halve the lead.

However, with 10 minutes to go Durham made the game safe and ensured the championship with a strong strike.

Town’s 17-year-old right back Hannah Leech was named player of the match after an excellent performance.
