IT’S CRUNCH time for Town Ladies on Sunday!
They head to sixth-placed Hessle for their final North-East Regional Women’s League match of the season (2.00) knowing victory will earn them the Premier Division title – and promotion to the Northern Combination.
Anything less and the honours will go to Barnsley Ladies, who beat Town 1-0 on Sunday to ensure a dramatic finale.
Town headed to Athersley buoyed by a 3-1 home win over Sheffield United Community Ladies last Thursday, when Emily Heckler (2) and Emma Poole scored.
That put them top, level on points with the South Yorkshire side, who had to win their final game to deny Town – who have a far superior goal difference – a celebration.
Town had the better of the first half but could not find the net.
On 11 minutes player of the match Jo Symington headed narrowly wide while Heckler found herself well marshalled.
A breakthrough almost came in the 53rd minute, when Sarah Griffiths hit a great long-range shot, but the Barnsley keeper clawed it wide.
The home side gradually started to take control and had a series of good chances thwarted by the Town defence.
Agonisingly for Town, Barnsley netted with seven minutes remaining to keep their hopes alive.
The Under 15s will aim for a final placing of third in the West Riding Girls League First Division when they host Silsden at Grange Moor on Saturday (10.30).
They romped to a 9-1 home win over Bradford City with Alice Linsell opening the scoring in the 24th minute, the first of a first-half hat trick.
Georgia Hamilton, and Abigail Wilkinson also counted for a five-goal lead at the break.
In the second half Town played against the wind and to overcome this, kept the ball on the ground.
Quick passing helped Town maintain their dominance with further goals from Mel Sutcliffe, Jodie Berry, Georgia Cooke and a second for Wilkinson.
Bradford scored late on.
