TOWN Ladies gained their first points of the Comination League season with a 6-0 away win at Salford Vixens.

Town – who were beaten 5-0 by a strong Bradford side in their previous game – opened the scoring after 11 minutes when 17-year-old Shauna Messenger headed home from a corner.

Raegan Cartledge doubled Town’s lead within a minute.

On 15 minutes it was Jo Symington’s turn to head a goal from a corner. Town were dominating possession and after 32 minutes last season's leading scorer, Emily Heckler, struck from distance.

Heckler got her second with three minutes of the half remaining.

The second half was a different affair. As Town relaxed and defended their lead, Salford played in a more determined mood.

Town soaked up the pressure and with only a minute of the game remaining Heckler broke clear to complete her hat trick and a well-deserved first win of the season.

Town are back in action on Thursday, away to last season’s Combination runners-up Sheffield Wednesday (8.00).

On Sunday they are at home at Storthes Hall to Wakefield Ladies (2.00).
