Huddersfield Town Ladies climbed to second in the Northern Women’s Combination as they beat Chorley 2-0 at home.

Chorley had been ahead in the table going into the game on goals scored, and Town started the game a little nervously with regular keeper Laura Carter ruled out due to a one game ban for her red card against Leeds Vixens.

Stand-in keeper Alarna Fuller was soon called into action and pulled off a very good save four minutes into the game.

The home side settled and on 16 minutes Kirsty Russell squared the ball for Emily Heckler to score, and Town’s second arrived 10 minutes before half-time when Kate Mallin played a defence

splitting pass for Heckler to hit her second of the game.

The win takes Town Ladies up joint second in the division with a game in hand on most of their rivals and Fuller was named player of the match for a fine performance in goal.

Town’s Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Sheffield United Community Ladies as they kicked off their season in the Women’s Premier League.

Town thought they had won the game when Sofie Armitage hit a second with only five minutes of the game remaining but United equalised.

The reserves make the long trip to Newcastle United Reserves on Sunday (2.00).

Town started the second half in great style and player of the match Beaumont completed her hat trick with two strikes in the first two minutes of the second half.

Molly Ellis netted Town’s fifth and soon after captain for the day Gwen Hughes scored the sixth.

The Wildcats grabbed their  consolation goal with 15 minutes of the match remaining, but further goals from Ellis and Beaumont secured the victory for Town.

Left winger Olivia Burgin almost made it nine late in the game with a well-struck shot but it was well saved by the Wildcats keeper.
