ANDY BOOTH is backing Town to come through tomorrow’s high-pressure home test against Crewe Alexandra.

Stan Ternent’s 19th-placed side will be expected to collect a fourth League I win of the campaign at the expense of the basement visitors.

Booth, of course, is likely to be out of action until the New Year after undergoing successful surgery on his back injury.

But he expects his club to be much further up the table by the time he returns.

“We’ve got a lot of quality in this squad – it’s clear to see in every training session,” said the strike star (inset) who was a member of the last Town side to go up from this division in 1995.

“It’s taken a while for the team to gel, and we haven’t got there yet, but I can definitely see us coming good.

“We just need a couple of wins to generate confidence and we’ll be on our way, and tomorrow provides a great chance to get three points.”

Having been held goalless at home to Yeovil on Tuesday, when Booth had an operation which Ternent today reported had gone well, Town are without a win in four.

For Crewe, it’s eight league games and 10 in all competitions since their last victory, 2-0 at home to Colchester on September 13.

That’s heaped the pressure on team chief Steve Holland, who admitted: “The board are being supportive, but I know that faith won’t last forever.

“Neither myself, the players, the board nor the fans are happy with things, and we’re all working together to improve results.”

Holland, who works alongside the hugely experienced Dario Gradi, added: “The spirit is intact and we have some good players.

“With a break or two and a bit of confidence the situation could quickly look very different.”

Holland must decide whether to hand a start to striker Tom Pope, who came off the bench to score the equaliser in Tuesday’s 1-1 home draw with Peterborough, who hammered Town 4-0 at London Road last Saturday.

Home captain Chris Lucketti, sent off in that match, is available again after serving his suspension against Yeovil.

Danny Cadamarteri could return after a hamstring problem while on-loan Steve Jones will hope to face his first league club.
