MARK ROBINS is ready to call on the experts in his mission to make Town’s players as fit as possible for the Championship campaign.

Bolstered by new signings Jon Stead , winger Adam Hammill and Martin Paterson, Town have started pre-season training, with the manager happy to team up with the University of Huddersfield .

The players’ fitness levels will be monitored, and Robins, working closely with right-hand man Steve Taylor, performance coach Darren Robinson and head of strength and conditioning Michael Rawson, is keen to see the results.

“There is a lot of expertise at the university in terms of sports science, and it makes real sense to foster a strong relationship,” he explained.

“Darren has been making regular visits there as part of our planning for pre-season, and we will continue to share knowledge and resources where possible.”

The new season starts five weeks tomorrow, August 3, with the visit to Nottingham Forest , and Town have five league games before the first international break.

Before that, there are five first-team friendlies, starting at Chesterfield on Saturday, July 13, preceded by a training camp in Spain .

“Players tend to keep themselves in better shape during the break than they used to, but they are still in for some hard work, and we aim to make every training session and every friendly count,” added Robins.
