Huddersfield Town have loaned development midfielder Ben Holmes to Hyde United for the remainder of the season.

The 19-year-old has already been told he won’t be offered a new contract this summer so the switch effectively ends his time at Town.

Holmes, from Oldham, joined Town’s academy from Heyside Juniors in 2010, graduating to the professional ranks in 2014.

It’s his second spell at Hyde, who play in the Northern Premier League, and Holmes had a stint at AFC Fylde earlier this season.

Town development coach Frankie Bunn explained: “Ben has been told that his current contract, which runs out at the end of the season, will not be extended.

“This loan move gives him a good opportunity to showcase his ability and secure another club.

“Ben is a player who has worked hard during his two years as a professional and throughout his time in the academy.

“But we have other players in the Under 21 Squad in the central midfield area as well as a number pushing to make the step up from the Under 18 side.

“We need to give those players opportunities and time on the pitch for their development, so again this move suits everyone.”
