Jamie Paterson believes he can bring goals to the Huddersfield Town mix from his favoured No10 position.

The 23-year-old played in the supporting role to striker Nahki Wells on his Town debut at Cardiff and is keen to build on that performance against Charlton Athletic – only with a different result.

Paterson is determined to make a big impact in his season-long loan from Nottingham Forest, having featured in just 25 matches last term, and he says he’s enjoyed settling in with the squad under manager Chris Powell and his staff.

“The lads have been great with me since I arrived and I like the atmosphere around the club – it’s really relaxed, which comes from the staff,” he explained as Town trained at Bisham Abbey in the wake of the 2-0 defeat in South Wales.

“That’s helped me get out on the pitch and now I hope to show the fans what I can do.

“I’m enjoying it so far. We’re staying down here until the Charlton game and that’ll give me the chance to get to know a few of the lads a bit more.

“I had a good season when I first went to Nottingham, but obviously last season wasn’t great for me for whatever reason.

“It didn’t work out for me, so it was really good at Cardiff for me to get a game under my belt, because I haven’t played many in the past 12 months.”

The former Walsall player insists he is not an out-and-out wingman and can produce his best form floating in front of the midfield.

“As a youngster, I played as a No10 and I feel that is my best position,” he explained.

“Obviously some teams don’t use that position and have accommodated me by letting me float in from the left, so I feel like I can play across those positions.

“I’m definitely not an out-and-out winger though. No10 is my best, even though (Saturday) was the first time I’ve played there in a while.

“I feel like if I get fit, a bit sharper and a bit more confident, I can score goals.

“I just need a few games under my belt.”

Paterson felt his debut in Town colours was “all right” but the defeat left a “sour taste” and one he’s keen to get rid of at The Valley.
