Huddersfield Town have loaned striker Jordy Hiwula to neighbours Bradford City.

The Bantams have beaten a string of their League I rivals to the 21-year-old former Manchester City player.

Walsall, who have twice had him on loan, were keen, and Southend United were among others believed to be interested.

Hiwula will join up with Bradford in time for their trip to Scotland.

Town signed him from Manchester City for £150,000 a year ago.

He is contracted to 2018 with a further year’s option in the club’s favour.

But he has made just one appearance, and was loaned to Wigan Athletic as well as Walsall last season.

With Nahki Wells and Elias Kachunga above him in the pecking order, Hiwula’s chances under David Wagner appear limited.

He has featured for only 45 minutes of the three friendlies Town have had so far.

New Bradford boss wants competition for existing frontmen James Hanson, Billy Clarke and Reece Webb-Foster.

He has already signed Blackpool keeper Colin Doyle, Shrewsbury Town centre-back Nat Knight-Percival and midfielders Nicky Law (Rangers) and Timothee Dieng (Oldham Athletic),

City’s Scottish base will be St Andrews and after playing Gateshead on Saturday, they have a friendly at St Johnstone on Tuesday.

Town will have a January recall option and head coach David Wagner said: “This is the correct move for the club and Jordy at this time.

“It is very important he plays regular football at a good level.

“Jordy has good experience in League 1 already, but now it is important he takes the next step and plays regularly for a full season.

“Bradford is ideal for the club as it is very near and we will monitor his performances very closely at this important time.”
