Jack Payne is the latest name to be strongly linked with a summer move to Huddersfield Town.
The 21-year-old aggressive midfielder made 35 appearances for Southend United in the League One season just finished, scoring nine goals.
From Tower Hamlets in London, Payne has made over 80 senior appearances for the Roots Hall club and is highly thought of.
The 5ft 5in battler, however, is out of contract and attracting interest from the likes of Sparta Rotterdam, Ipswich and Wolves.
Hear what David Wagner has to say about summer transfers
Should he move to an English club, Southend will be due compensation as he is under 24 years of age.
Town head coach David Wagner will not be drawn on transfer targets, although Liverpool’s Welsh international goalkeeper Danny Ward is said to be joining on a season-long loan, while Fleetwood stopper Chris Maxwell is also believed to be on the radar.
“It is not fair for me to speak about players who are not my players – people from other clubs,” said Wagner.
“All the players (being mentioned) are very interesting players, good players and I know them.
“But they are not my players. When we sign somebody we will make it official, and we will sign a goalkeeper, definitely.”
