Chris Powell has had preliminary talks with opposite number Phil Parkinson about extending striker Jon Stead’s loan at Bradford City.

The 31-year-old is due back after the Bantams’ FA Cup third-round tie at Millwall tomorrow.

Stead, who scored for City in each of the previous two rounds, is set for a 14th appearance for the League I club.

The former Bristol City man has notched four goals in all for Bradford.

His Valley Parade teammate James Hanson is keen for Stead to stay.

“Steady’s great to have around the place,” said his fellow striker.

“It’s shown in that we’ve gone nine unbeaten and he’s obviously been a major part of that.

“It would be great if we could get his loan extended or make it permanent.

“They say you never stop learning and myself and the other lads pick up so much from him because of his experience.”

Powell said: “I’m pleased Jon has gone to Bradford and taken his chance of regular football.

“That was why he went there, and it’s gone well for him.

“I believe Phil and the Bradford fans would say he went with the right attitude.

“For the moment, he’s focused on the Millwall match, and we will see what happens after that.”
