WHILE his children prepare to write to Santa Claus, Lee Clark is already working on his own Christmas list!

In his case, the presents are due to arrive in January, when the transfer window reopens.

As ever, Town’s manager was out and about watching games this week as he keeps his list of potential targets updated.

Watford’s former Birmingham City left-back Mat Sadler is no longer of subject of interest.

His trial period, which included a reserve run-out, has ended with Clark explaining: “There were two main factors behind our decision not to pursue things.

“Mat is a good player and a good professional whose attitude and application is first class.

“But the key with any recruitment is that whoever comes in must improve the existing squad, and if it is a senior player, as with Mat, they must be able to step in and do a job immediately.

“For whatever reason, he hasn’t played any first-team football for a while and a combination of the two factors made up my mind.”

Clark had earlier announced he would not be offering a deal to former Northern Ireland Under 21 centre-back Mark McChrystal, who turned out for the second team twice.

Plans to field another trialist in Wednesday’s totesport.com League clash with Hartlepool United at the Galpharm fell through.

The reserves are next in Central Division action against Middlesbrough at Emley on Tuesday (2.00).

The juniors are without an FA Academy Premier League match this weekend.
