LEE CLARK said he was satisfied with “all aspects” of Town’s performance as they completed a derby double over Sheffield Wednesday.

And the manager had particular praise for new loan arrival Kevin Kilbane after the 1-0 Galpharm win sealed by Anthony Pilkington’s sweet 27th-minute strike.

Republic of Ireland ace Kilbane made his home debut after arriving on loan from Hull City in time to figure in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Carlisle.

And Clark said of the former Preston, West Brom, Sunderland, Everton and Wigan midfielder: “He’s a class act, and you can see why he has won the caps (108) he has.

“His quality on the ball is top class, he is a cool head who uses his experience, and his desire to win headers and tackles is excellent.”

Clark branded Kilbane’s first-half booking for a tackle on Darren Purse which was deemed a foul by referee Michael OIiver as “an absolute joke”.

Town’s boss explained: “If it carries on like this, we are heading into being a non-contact sport.

“I didn’t see any difference between Kevin’s tackle and the one Darren made on him in the second half but wasn’t booked for.

“That’s the inconsistency which frustrates me as a manager, and I will keep putting my points across to the referees’ association.”

Clark believes the performances against Carlisle and Wednesday represent a solid start to 2011.

“If you draw your away games and win your home games, you’ll be in the promotion frame, and this season, it’s good enough to put you in the title shake-up,” he said.

“I was very satisfied with this performance and I felt we showed we can handle all aspects of the game.

“Some of our football in the first half was of the highest quality and calibre and the goal was worthy of winning any game at any level in any country.

“In the second half it was a bit more backs to the wall at times, but we defended well as a team and still managed to break away and create opportunities.

“We showed all the elements needed to win against sides around you in the table.”
