Mark Robins reckons Jazz Richards’ Wales call-up could benefit Huddersfield Town when they return to Championship action at Leicester on Saturday week.

The on-loan Swansea defender was a late addition to Chris Coleman’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia in Cardiff tonight and in Belgium next Tuesday.

The 22-year-old – real name Ashley – has made four starts and one substitute appearance for Town, and boss Robins reckons he is settling in well.

And having played just once for his parent club this season, against Malmo in Sweden in the Europa League, Robins believes the more games he gets at this stage, the better.

“In Jazz’s situation, momentum is good because he hadn’t been playing much first-team football until he joined us,” explained Robins.

“I was pleased to see him get the call-up, because it’s a sign he has caught the eye in our games, and of course any player wants to reach international level.

“Jazz has settled well on and off the pitch, and I thought he combined well with Adam Hammill down the right flank against Watford.

“Attacking is an area of his game I want him to develop – we need to see him in that final third of the pitch more often – and I know there is plenty more to come from Jazz.”

The Swansea-born player has won two Wales caps, against Mexico and Croatia, after playing for his country at Under 17, 19 and 21 level.

“Obviously as a manager, you always have a concern over players picking up an injury, but I’d like to see Jazz get minutes on the pitch for Wales.

“They have two interesting games. Macedonia can be tough opponents while everyone is talking about Belgium’s current crop of talent – and even if Jazz doesn’t feature, he will benefit from the experience of being part of the preparation.”
