Winger Sean Scannell called on Huddersfield Town’s fringe players to step up in the absence of suspended Joel Lynch.

The centre-back faces a one-match ban after his dismissal in Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Reading – and it comes with skipper Peter Clarke already out through injury.

However, Scannell thinks Town have enough cover and said: “Joel’s frustrated, but it’s a chance for others to step up.

“I’m sure we’ve got cover. There are good defenders in the likes of Murray Wallace and Jazz Richards who haven’t been in the team recently.”

Club captain Clarke remains an influence behind the scenes and Scannell said: “He’s always around and encouraging the players.

“That’s one of the reasons why he’s a great captain. We’re looking forward to having him back once he’s fit.”

Town are 12th in the Championship as the halfway point of the season nears and Scannell said: “We could be even higher.

“We’re happy with where we are but sometimes, like Saturday, we’ve not got the results our performances have deserved.”
