Huddersfield Town have a vital summer of stengthening to achieve and then need to shape up big-style next season.

That’s the view of supporters worried by performances in the 4-0 defeat at Bristol City and 5-1 home hammering by Brentford which rounded off the Championship season.

Chris Green, from Dalton, summed up many of the feelings recorded with examiner.co.uk and on the Examiner’s Huddersfield Town Facebook page.

“Hopefully we’ll come back better, because the players have let the supporters down big-time recently and it has not done the Wagner Revolution title card any good.

“Big change is needed, and if we don’t get it right, our future in the Championship could be very uncertain.

“We just don’t have a squad full of hungry players wanting to achieve.

“They’re too inconsistent, lack the required talent to take us forward and – as we know – are capable of being walloped on a bad day.”

Terry, of Fenay Bridge, pointed out: “Brentford, not long ago, were dropping down the table like a stone, but they have turned it around.

“Not like us – still the shocking defending, playing a right-sided player at left back, calling for offside instead of going for the ball, leaving Hogg and Billing on the bench and using players who won’t be here next season.

“The team needs a massive turnaround because displays like this are an insult to the fans!”

Darren Wormald, on Facebook, agreed.

“Absolute disgrace, no shape, no effort, no tackling, no running off the ball, nothing in the box – was a complete shambles,” he said.

“Nahki Wells is the only striker at the club by the looks of it, so time to add at least two more to the books in the summer.”

Andy Sharp, also on Facebook, can’t stand Town being a soft touch like against Brentford.

“We need to stop playing centre backs in full back positions,” he said.

“Really hope some of the young players step up to the plate.

“I reckon pre-season is going to be a killer, but the question is: What is required so we avoid becoming a walkover like we have been the last two games?”

Dave Robinson, based in Bingley, said: “The top brass and coaches need to go away and plan a viable strategy before any more players are brought into the club.

“Loan players are not the answer. Take a serious look at the academy?”

Most fans feel Town have a lot of improving to do if they are not to be in a relegation struggle next season.

Roger, from Menston, described the performance against Brentford as “disgusting” with no effort or desire.

“If David Wagner cannot get a better reaction than that from a 4-0 defeat we are in trouble,” he said.

“Can only hope he can get players in who will respond and Dean Hoyle will splash enough cash to get the quality.

“Otherwise we are in for another struggling season and, one year, there will NOT be 3 teams worse than us!”

Joe, a supporter from Marsh, says the last two results show Town are not up to scratch to challenge in the Championship.

“With very few exceptions, our home form has been well below what is needed to compete at this level and we were completely outclassed (against Brentford) by a set of players who did their club proud,” he said.

“David Wagner’s motivation talents have been brought to bear of late and he too needs to shape up much better if this club is not to find itself struggling near the bottom of the Championship next season.”
