POLICE chief George Callaghan was voted ‘man-of-the-match’ when he allowed Town fans to move into the Cowshed for the second half of the 2-0 win against Portsmouth.

The Cowshed end, traditional home of the club’s supporters, has been a virtually barren wasteland since movement between different sections of the ground was stopped when Town got into the Second Division.

But the fans were back behind the goal – and cheering Town to victory – after the local superintendent decided to unlock the gates.

“It’s a reflection of our great links with the West Yorkshire police that they have allowed this to happen and we are delighted,” said Leeds Road commercial executive Keith Hanvey.
