HUDDERSFIELD Town progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers after Jimmy Glazzard and Jimmy Watson scored to seal success.

Town had gone into the Leeds Road clash having opted to play 20-year-old Ian Duthie in the right wing role, the player was making only his third appearance for the club and his first outing of the season due to being on National Service.

Duthie proved a thorn in Rovers side testing their full-back Geoff Fox time and again, but it was not until two minutes before the interval when Vic Metcalfe’s free kick was head into the net by Glazzard that Town took the lead.

And 12 minutes into the second half Town had ensured their progress into the fourth round draw when Duthie again found space to send in a testing cross and Watson was on hand to score with a diving header.

Watson almost added a third after a solo run but Rovers goalkeeper Bert Hoyle tipped the shot over the bar.
