LEE CLARK looked ahead to Saturday’s trans-Pennine clash with Oldham Athletic and pledged: “We’re far more than a one-man team.”

The manager’s comments came as Robbie Simpson, the Town striker on the verge of a permanent transfer to Boundary Park, claimed that if the Latics can put the brakes on Jordan Rhodes, they can win the eagerly-awaited League I derby at the Galpharm.

Rhodes, who was born in Oldham and whose father Andy is a popular former keeper there, aims to continue his red-hot scoring run against Paul Dickov’s side.

The Scotland ace fired in five at Wycombe last Friday to take his tally to 12 in the last five games and 27 for the season as a whole.

Simpson, currently in his second loan spell at Oldham but not allowed to face his parent club, said: “Nobody can stop Jordan at the moment, but if we manage it, I think we can win the game.”

Clark said: “Jordan is taking all the plaudits, and rightly so, but we produced a very good all-round team performance at Wycombe.

“Jordan would be the first to acknowledge that if it wasn’t for the work of his teammates, he couldn’t get the goals he does, and our passing and approach play was excellent.”

Clark also hailed the clean sheet, praising not just Jamie McCombe, who made an impressive return to the team after his loan at League I rivals Preston, but the side as a whole.

“I was pleased with the way we shut Wycombe down and denied them territory and that’s also an all-round effort,” he added. “We need more the same against Oldham.”

Town are tracking a first win in four meetings with Oldham, with the last two finishing level.
