MALVIN KAMARA could pass up the opportunity of a contract with top American club Columbus Crew.

As two of his former clubs prepare to do battle in the FA Cup tomorrow, the former Town and Port Vale wingman is hoping to beat a hamstring injury in time to figure for Barrow in their second-round tie at Oxford.

The 26-year-old’s contract with the Blue Square Premier club is only short-term, and the Londoner recently had a trial with the 2008 MLS champions.

“Columbus want me to sign and go back there in January, but at the moment I don’t think I’ll go. My girlfriend is pregnant and I don’t want to relocate her or be away from her,” he explained.

The 26-year-old’s five goals in 54 appearances for Town, who released him at the end of last season, included a double in the 3-2 FA Cup first-round win at Accrington the season before last.

Barrow, who are 17th, are seeking revenge over Blue Square leaders Oxford after losing 1-0 there seven days ago.

Another ex-Town man aiming to make a further FA Cup impact is striker Kevin Gallen, who scored both goals in Luton’s 2-0 first-round replay win at Rochdale which earned the former League club a trip to Rotherham tomorrow.

Gillingham insist they will be taking their home game against League II Burton Albion just as seriously as their fight to stay in League I.

“We seriously want to get through to the next round,” said manager Mark Stimson.

“Last year a packed house against Aston Villa was financially huge for us.”
