DAVID MIRFIN is set to leave Scunthorpe according to Glanford Park boss Alan Knill.

The Iron have been relegated to League I, but Knill expects the former Town centre-back to remain in the  Championship.

“I would expect David to be playing somewhere else next year,” said Knill.

“I honestly think he’s a Championship player so I’d be surprised if he’s not  playing at that level next year.

“He hasn’t indicated anything but I don’t think he has to. He’s out of contract and a free agent, which leaves him open to  as many offers as he can possibly get.

“He’ll then choose the right one for him.”

Mirfin’s former Galpharm teammate Danny Schofield is among seven players released by Championship club  Millwall.

Ex-Town player Ben Thornley is set to play in former Manchester United and England star Gary Neville’s testimonial.

Neville is recruiting as many of  United’s 1992 FA Youth Cup winning squad, which included Thornley, as he can for a match against Juventus at Old Trafford on May 24.

David Beckham is believed to be considering an invitation to play.
