Dean Hoyle says David Wagner will be given both time and money to turn Huddersfield Town into a Championship force.

The club’s new head coach and his assistant Christoph Buehler start work on Monday, and owner Hoyle believes it’s a new beginning.

Hoyle expects former Borussia Dortmund reserve team coach Wagner to bring a change in philosophy and culture to the club, and says there could well be a move into the European transfer market.

But he has asked supporters to be patient, explaining: “This is no quick fix and we need to allow David the time to develop this change.”

Hoyle, who thanked academy manager Mark Lillis for his efforts as stand-in manager after Chris Powell’s sacking, said: “The final whistle against Leeds United signalled the start of a new chapter in Huddersfield Town’s history.

“Our new head coach will bring about a change in philosophy and culture within the club’s first team.

“Make no mistake, this is no ‘quick fix’ and will take time, so we all – chairman and fans alike – need to be patient and allow David the time to develop this change.

“He brings lots of new ideas to the table and that excites me, as I believe now is the time to change the mentality of this club.

“Treading water in the Skybet Championship is not enough for Huddersfield Town. I believe we are now an established second-tier team and we should have no fear when taking on some of the division’s ‘big boys’.

“A lot has already been said about the need to have clear pathways for the youngsters coming through the club’s academy system who are deemed good enough.

“That is vital for the sustainability of Huddersfield Town, but equally we all realise that must be coupled with experience. It’s all about striking the right balance between the two.

“The team will also need to be fitter than ever, as fitness plays a big part in David’s planned style of play. I’m sure some players will embrace this change and others may not, but that’s life and we will move on.

“David also brings a wealth of knowledge of European football and that will open up new markets when it comes to recruitment.

“As always, we won’t rush to buy players for the sake of it. Our recruitment process will be thorough.

“As Chairman, I believe the time is now for Huddersfield Town to push on. As such, I am committed to backing our new head coach both financially and with time.

“I believe there are exciting times around the corner for our club. They start with David and I wish him all the best.”
