Huddersfield Town are set to loan Danny Ward and Adam Hammill to Championship rivals Rotherham United.
And with Ward out of contract this summer and Hammill in 2016, the Millers could make both moves permanent in the long term.
Striker Jon Stead has returned to neighbours Bradford City on loan for the rest of the season.
Now his fellow attackers, who have struggled to make an impact since Powell’s arrival in September, are set to switch to South Yorkshire.
Ward, a reported £1m signing from Bolton Wanderers in 2011, has made only four starts this season, plus 10 appearances from the bench.
Hammill, who joined from Wolves the close-season before last, has made three starts and five substitute appearances.
Rotherham, who have also signed Leicester City winger Jack Barmby on loan, are 19th in the table, a place and two points behind Town.
They are away to Brentford on Saturday.
