Signings Lee Peltier and Joe Murphy got on the training pitch with their new Huddersfield Town colleagues for the first time at PPG Canalside today.
Peltier, a free-transfer signing from Leeds United, and Murphy – who previously worked with manager Mark Robins at Coventry City – have been undergoing fitness monitoring with the rest of the squad for the past two days.
Today, however, Robins and his new backroom team of assistant manager Steve Thompson and first-team coach Steve Eyre had the players out on the 3G surface at the club’s Leeds Road training base, where groundsman Robert Ellis and the rest of the staff have got the surfaces in pretty much pristine condition.
Watch the players in action below.
“Much of our time up to now has been taken up on the phone, along with the gaffer, trying to get players sorted out and making sure everything has been ready for pre-season,” said Thompson, who helped Blackpool to three Wembley appearances and a promotion to the Premier League in his time at Bloomfield Road.
“Tuesday and yesterday the players were going to the University of Huddersfield for their testing after following fitness programmes over the summer and that’s gone well.
“They have come back fit and ready and now we are looking forward to seeing them out on the pitch and getting started.
“In my playing days you never saw a football for the first two weeks of pre-season, but now the footballs are out early. We will do our fitness work, obviously, and the first objective is to get through the next couple of weeks without picking up any injuries.”
