Huddersfield Town travel to Grimsby Town tomorrow night looking to build on the fine form so far in pre-season which has seen them collect two wins from two.

A 2-0 win over Leyton Orient at the end of a week-long training camp in Marbella came off the back of an opening friendly win at Guiseley a week previously.

And they face a side in the Mariners who are also able to boast a 100% record from their close-season schedule to date, having secured three away victories and a notable scalp in Derby County earlier this month with a 2-1 home win.

Town will hope to avoid the same fate suffered by the Rams when they travel to Blundell Park tomorrow night in a game manager Chris Powell indicated will be his side's biggest challenge to date.

“I expect Tuesday night’s game at Grimsby to be our hardest yet, as it comes on the back of today’s game and the travelling back to England,” he said following the weekend win over Leyton Orient.

“Regardless, I want to maintain our momentum; it would be nice to keep winning games.”

Here's everything you need to know about the Lincolnshire outfit ahead of Town's trip there tomorrow night.

Manager

Paul Hurst - The 40-year-old former Rotherham United left-back initially took charge at Blundell Park in 2011 in a joint-managerial role with Rob Scott - having previously been been at Ilkeston Town and Boston United together - before getting the job on a full-time basis as an individual in 2013.

He arrived as Grimsby fell out of the Football League and, despite a promotion push in 2010/11, eventually led them to a 11th-placed finish in what was then known as the Conference Premier.

In 2012/13, Hurst and Scott masterminded a run to the FA Trophy final before losing to Wrexham on penalties at Wembley and they suffered more heartbreak when they lost to Newport County in the play-off semi finals.

The following campaign saw Scott sacked for gross misconduct and Hurst was confirmed as being the sole manager of the club and was handed a new contract in January 2014 to reflect the progress he had made.

2014/15 was his first full season at the club and it saw the Mariners secure a top-four finish for the third season in a row and come within a whisker of promotion...

2014/15

As aforementioned, last year saw Hurst and his side come so close but yet so far from sealing a return to the fourth tier, with the Mariners beaten on penalties in the final by Bristol Rovers, having finished third in what is now the National League.

The Mariners' total of 86 points saw them finish five shy of Rovers, who came second, and six behind champions Barnet, but they comfortably advanced to the Wembley final with a 5-1 aggregate win over Eastleigh in the semi-finals.

But despite taking the lead in the national stadium through Lenell John-Lewis, Ellis Harrison took the game all the way to penalties where the Pirates prevailed 5-4, with Jon-Paul Pittman the unlucky man to miss from the spot.

Pre-season form

The Mariners have won each of their four fixtures so far, plundering 11 goals and shipping just three in that time as they look to recover from such a disappointing setback at the end of last term.

They opened up with a comprehensive 4-0 win at neighbouring Cleethorpes Town, with Pittman on target alongside new signing Padraig Amond (2) and Omar Bogle.

Amond has scored in three of the four matches and has five in total having netted along with Craig Clay in the 2-1 win over Derby and notched another brace as recently as this weekend in the 3-1 win at Gainsborough Trinity.

Those two matches sandwiched a trip to North Ferriby United, where they won 2-1 thanks to goals from Nathan Arnold - who also found the net at Gainsborough - and Pittman once more.

New signings

Hurst has been busy this summer as he looks to add the missing ingredients to his squad and has added six players so far, with Amond the headline act.

Arnold, who has arrived permanently from Cambridge United after a successful loan spell, is joined by fellow former U's teammate Richard Tait, as well as former Rotherham man Andy Monkhouse, Morecambe winger Marcus Marshall, Solihull Moors striker Omar Bogle and Portsmouth defender Danny East.

Key man

Nathan Arnold - The 27-year-old took his place in the 2014/15 Vanarama Conference Team of the Year and was one of three Mariners players to feature, along with defender Shaun Pearson and midfielder Craig Disley.

But with John-Lewis moving to League Two side Newport County, the goalscoring burden will fall largely on Arnold's shoulders and he proved at the back end of last season that he is a man for the big occasion having netted twice in the play-off semi-final win over Eastleigh before setting up John-Lewis in the final.

He featured largely on the flanks last season but still chipped in with six goals and is relishing playing up front so far in pre-season.

Grimsby winger Nathan Arnold played a key role during 2014/15

“I'm enjoying it, I started out up front and I'm familiar with the role,” Arnold said after the 3-1 win at Gainsborough.

“The gaffer's not brought anyone else in as of yet, and we're covered in most areas.”

Team news

Manager Hurst is expected to pick largely the same squad which secured their fourth consecutive pre-season triumph at the weekend, although he will be without goalkeeper James McKeown, who has been admitted to hospital after suffering from viral meningitis, and recently-appointed goalkeeping coach Andy Warrington should take his place between the posts again.

Starting XI and substitutes last time out: Warrington; Sunter, Nsiala, Gowling, East; Monkhouse, Clifton, Clay, Mackreth; Arnold, Pittman.

Amond, Marshall, Tait, Bastock, Venney, Disley, Bogle.

Previous visit

Town have only met the Mariners six times in all competitions since the turn of the millennium, with their most recent face-off coming in the 3-2 FA Cup third-round win at Blundell Park in January last year.

Town trailed 2-1 heading into the final few minutes, but Martin Paterson's strike and a stoppage-time own goal from Aswad Thomas sealed Town's place in the next round.

That win was the first time Town have come out on top at Grimsby since a 3-1 win in what was then known as the Sherpa Vans Trophy (now the Football League Trophy) in 1989, with four draws and four defeats between the two victories.
