LEE CLARK is ready to let more of Town's young players go out on loan as long as he can find the right clubs.

The Galpharm boss has already sent striker Jimmy Spencer to Cheltenham and midfielder Chris Atkinson to Darlington.

Now winger Aidan Chippendale, defender Greg Pearson, midfielder Matt Crooks and goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson could follow suit.

Anton Robinsons arrival the midfielder will take squad number 22 means Town have a 33-strong first-team pool going into the new League I campaign, which starts at home to promoted Bury on Saturday.

Clark is keen to cut that number, and has transfer-listed brothers Nathan and Tom Clarke, Joey Gudjonsson and Robbie Simpson.

Their names have been circulated for permanent moves or long-term loans with Clark insisting Town will seek market value in any deals.

For the younger players, its a case of career development, and the boss explained: They need regular competitive football.

Weve seen how Jack Hunt benefited from playing highly meaningful matches for Chesterfield last season.

The current crop can also learn a lot, but we have to make sure its the right environment, and we will do.

Crooks, like Allinson is a second-year scholar.

My initial thought was to keep Matt here, because hes still relatively young, but the way he has responded to the challenge of pre-season has changed my mind, explained Clark.

He has held his own in both training and matches, and because of that, I think a loan stint could do him a lot of good.

Town striker Jordan Rhodes will miss the Carling Cup tie at Port Vale to link up with the Scotland Under 21 squad.
