It would be interesting to know what Assem Allam, the man so keen to change Hull City into Tigers, makes of the moniker Brighton and Hove Albion.

While Scunthorpe long ago dropped Lindsay and Bournemouth kicked Boscombe into touch, the South coast side have stuck to their two-town title.

But that’s certainly not to say they haven’t progressed, as visitors to their smart Amex Stadium will testify.

The club’s home, opened for the start of the 2011-12 season and recently named as a 2015 Rugby World Cup venue, is a far cry from the Withdean Stadium, where Town were the last visitors.

Danny Ward’s late goal meant Town won 3-2 against a club already promoted from League I under the dynamic chairmanship of Tony Bloom and colourful management of Gus Poyet.

Uruguayan Poyet took Albion, who almost lost Football League membership in the late nineties, to last season’s Championship play-offs before being sacked for reasons which have never been made public.

Spaniard Oscar Garcia has put his own stamp on the side, and after a slow start, the Seagulls are in eighth place after a run of five wins and just one defeat in seven.

While Brighton have won their last two, against Leicester and Middlesbrough, Town, four places and five points below, have lost to Ipswich and Reading.

But both were by narrow margins, and Town can argue they could easily have won on each occasion.

Tomorrow’s task looks tough, but it’s not long since Barnsley won at Brighton, and a return to the team of James Vaughan and Jonathan Hogg, both of whom face fitness tests, would be a real bonus, particularly with Brighton old boy Joel Lynch serving a one-match ban.

Town created plenty of chances against Reading , and having their 12-goal top scorer on the field would obviously improve the chances of taking some of them.

And the midfield contest is always crucial, with Brighton well served in that department by former Chelsea pair Liam Bridcutt and Rohan Ince.

Brighton will be without winger Craig Conway, back at parent club Cardiff after the expiry of his loan, but have the explosive Kazenga Lua Lua as an option, while up front, Argentinian Leonardo Ulloa, who scored a hat trick against Town at the Amex last season, is pushing for a first start after injury.
