Huddersfield Town have recalled striker Jordy Hiwula from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

And the 21-year-old will be considered for Saturday’s Championship clash at Preston North End.

Town signed former England junior international Hiwula for a reported £150,000 from Manchester City in July.

But he made just one appearance, as a substitute in the Capital One Cup first-round defeat by Notts County, before joining Wigan.

He has scored six times in nine starts and seven substitute appearances for the League I club.

The deal was season-long, but with a January recall built in.

Town head coach David Wagner wants Hiwula to follow the example of Joe Lolley, who has flourished since returning from a loan stint at League I Scunthorpe United.

“I would like to thank Wigan Athletic for working with Jordy, it has been good for him to get more experience of football,” he said.

“However I think now is the right time for him to come back to us.

“I have watched him play for Wigan and he has interesting qualities.

“I prefer to work with players owned by our club so they can learn our ideas.

“This is a good first opportunity for me to get a good picture of how able Jordy is to apply our game on the pitch.

“Joe Lolley is a good example for Jordy.

“He came back from a loan, showed us his quality and showed that he is able to develop with us.

“Jordy also gives us another option in our attacking positions, either as the number nine or in the wide areas.

“He will get the opportunity to play here because we now have the space in our squad.

“He will also allow me to make good choices to keep our players fresh in our system.”

Wigan manager Gary Caldwell said: “We’d like to place on record our thanks to Jordy, he is a young player with a great attitude and he did well for us. He goes with our best wishes.”

Manchester-born Hiwula had loan spells at Yeovil Town and Walsall while at City.
