JACK HUNT has a chance of featuring in Huddersfield Town’s festive fixtures after X-rays revealed he avoided a fracture when injured against Bournemouth.

The right-back with the rising reputation was carried off 50 minutes into the 1-0 League I defeat at the Galpharm with damage to his left ankle and shin.

Boss Lee Clark, whose side are fourth in League I, is optimistic the 21-year-old will respond to treatment once the injury has settled down.

And he has yet to rule him out of Saturday’s big derby against second-placed Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

“It’s a huge relief for Jack and myself that there is no fracture, and we’ll be better placed to assess the extent of the injury when the swelling has gone down,” said Clark.

“At this stage, it looks like bad bruising, and the very fact that we’re mentioning Jack and Sheffield Wednesday in the same breath is encouraging.

“There’s no way we will risk him if he isn’t right, but the situation is certainly not as bad as we first feared.”

The Wednesday clash is followed by the home meetings with Chesterfield (Boxing Day, 3.00) and Carlisle (Friday, December 30, 7.45) and the Monday, January 2 trip to Notts County (3.00).

Town academy product Hunt has made 23 appearances this season and 46 in all since returning last January from his loan at Chesterfield.
