A YOUNG Town Reserves side were beaten 2-0 by Rotherham at the Don Valley Stadium.
Goals by experienced Paul Warne after 19 minutes and striker Ryan Taylor on the hour mark were enough to condemn Paul Stephenson’s charges to a third successive defeat in the totesport.com League East Division.
It was a useful run-out for some of the Academy, however, and also for Tom Clarke, who skippered the side in his first start to any match since returning from knee surgery in early September.
Clarke, who went on as a substitute for the senior side in the FA Cup victory against Dagenham and Redbridge, was replaced by Chris Atkinson 11 minutes from time and will retain his place in Lee Clark’s first-team squad for this Saturday’s Galpharm clash with League II basement side Wycombe Wanderers.
Joe Skarz – who went closest to a Town goal yesterday with a first-half drive, played the full 90 minutes, as did James Berrett and goalkeeper Matt Glennon.
Town have yet to decide whether to bring back trialist Anthony Moure-Komenen from his home in France and he was not involved yesterday.
The second string are next in action at AFC Emley’s Welfare Ground on Wednesday November 25 (2.00) when Scunthorpe United are the visitors.
Town – Glennon, Ridehalgh, Franks, Harris, Powell, Skarz, Clarke (Atkinson 79), Berrett, Watson (Bower 69), Chippendale (McCaffery HT), Birtles. Subs not used: Nightingale, McLean.
