TOWN Juniors will host non-league Atherstone Town in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.
Graham Mitchell’s Under 18s scored a 2-1 extra-time victory up at Darlington in Saturday’s first-round clash, which was watched by manager Lee Clark.
Town had to come from behind after unluckily conceding a goal to Dale Hobson in only the 10th minute – his long-range effort taking a massive deflection off a Town defender and looping over stranded keeper Lloyd Allinson.
Town equalised in the 20th minute through Michael McCaffery, who scored his fourth goal of the season with a powerful 15-yard volley after a neat build-up into the box.
Apart from one outstanding save by Allinson, Town remained pretty much on top for the rest of the match but just couldn’t make the most of their opportunities.
It wasn’t until six minutes into the extra half hour that midfielder Ryan Watson netted the winner, again his shot from outside the area going in with the help of a big deflection.
It was a good way to follow up on the senior side’s 6-1 win against Dagenham & Redbridge on Friday night.
