But according to the Daily Mirror, they face a battle with Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United to secure his signature.

Sweeney, 18, made the breakthrough into the senior side at the League Two outfit last month, and has been attracting plenty of admirers with his assured displays.

Arsenal, Fulham and Brighton were linked with the youngster last summer, and now Town have been added to the list of potential suitors.

The Ireland youth international made his senior AFC Wimbledon debut in April 2015, and made three appearances at the end of last season.

However, since making his first start of the 2015/16 campaign against Luton in February, he has been virtually ever-present in The Dons' back line.

A tall, left-sided centre-back who came through the Academy set-up at Kingsmeadow, Sweeney made his international bow for Ireland's u18 side last summer and earned his first u19 cap against Ukraine in October.
