Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of West Ham United midfielder Diego Poyet on a youth loan.

Poyet, son of Sunderland manager Gus, has joined the Terriers until December 6 and goes straight into the first-team squad to face Fulham this weekend.

He will wear the No.44 shirt for the Terriers and could deputise for thigh injury victim Jonathan Hogg at Craven Cottage tomorrow.

The England youth international joined the Hammers in the summer after rejecting a new deal with former club Charlton Athletic, where he was promoted to the first team by former Addicks manager and current Town boss Chris Powell.

The 19-year-old only made his first-team debut in January this year for Charlton in a 3-0 FA Cup win at Oxford United, and was crowned Charlton's player of the year after making just 23 appearances in the latter half of 2013/2014.

He has only featured for Sam Allardyce's side three times since arriving but made his Premier League debut earlier this term in the Hammers' 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Upon unveiling Powell, chairman Dean Hoyle namechecked the Spanish-born defensive midfielder as one of the key personnel his new manager had nurtured while in charge at the Valley.

Hoyle said: “Chris has an excellent pedigree of developing young players, with the likes of Carl Jenkinson, Diego Poyet, Callum Harriott and Jordan Cousins emerging in Charlton’s first team under his guidance.

That is an important factor in our vision for the club."

Powell, meanwhile, was delighted to be reunited with a player he believes can make a mark during his time at the John Smith's Stadium.

"Diego is a player I know very well from our time together at Charlton," he said.

"He is a real talent and adds further quality to our midfield options.

"I have been told that Diego caught the eye of a number of clubs, including Huddersfield Town, following his performances for Charlton, but he’s been out of our reach until this opportunity became available.

"He’s made his Premier League bow for West Ham and we will give him further Championship experience.

"I am grateful that the club has demonstrated a willingness to enhance the squad and move quickly to get the move done.

"Diego is a tenacious midfield player with a great range of passing; he should dovetail brilliantly with our other midfield players at the Club and fit right into the squad in terms of his personality."
