DARRYL DUFFY is preparing for a second appearance at the Galpharm in less than three weeks – much to the displeasure of Bristol Rovers fans.

The former Hull striker helped Rovers battle their way to a goalless draw against Town on January 19.

He was later loaned to League I rivals Carlisle, making his debut in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Colchester.

Bristol were beaten 5-0 at Leyton Orient on the same night, with travelling fans venting their anger at management duo Paul Trollope and Lennie Lawrence.

Rovers chairman Nick Higgs hit back ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Walsall, saying: “Money has been available throughout the whole of this season to strengthen the squad.

“We are running with the highest wage bill we have ever had, so we can not be criticised for a lack of ambition.”

Rovers have been hunting a new striker since the departure of Rickie Lambert to Southampton in August.

Higgs added: “We have been unfortunate that we haven't found the players Paul Trollope and Lennie Lawrence feel could do the job for us.

“I am not going to say that we are going to throw money around willy nilly, but if it is deemed a good investment, we will consider everything seriously.”

On Duffy’s departure for the remainder of the season, Higgs said: “The decision was made by the management team that it was best for Darryl to go.

“We have been very close to signing two or three Championship strikers, but for one reason or another they have not gone through.

“Some decided to go to other clubs, and some didn’t come because the clubs in question won’t release them until they have brought new players in.”

Tomorrow’s other League I games: Brentford v Gillingham, Exeter v Southampton, Hartlepool v Leeds, Leyton Orient v Brighton, Millwall v Norwich, Stockport v MK Dons, Swindon v Charlton, Tranmere v Oldham, Walsall v Bristol Rovers, Wycombe v Yeovil.
