BOTH Huddersfield Town's Ian Bennett and his Sheffield United opposite number Steve Simonsen could potentially be playing their last games for their current clubs on Saturday.

The pair are out of contract, with Town chief Simon Grayson waiting to see what division his side will be playing in before completing his squad plans for 2012-13.

South Shields-born Simonsen, 33. started out at Tranmere before earning a big £3.3m move across the Mersey to Everton in 1998.

He later played for Stoke before switching to Sheffield United, initially on loan, in 2010.

The 6ft 2in star has indicated he would like to remain at Bramall Lane beyond his current deal.

"I’ve enjoyed working alongside the manager (Danny Wilson) and the staff that he’s brought in and I’d like to continue those relationships," he said.

Simonsen went through a sticky patch earlier in the season but has impressed since the turn of the year.

He made his 100th appearance for the Blades in the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Stevenage a week ago.

At 6ft, Bennett isn’t the tallest of keepers.

But the man who competes with Alex Smithies for the Town shirt is noted for his bravery and shot-stopping skills.

"I enjoyed my time at Sheffield United and still have friends there," he said.

"As with any team you’ve played for, I keep an eye on their results.

"But it’s all about Huddersfield for me these days and our only thoughts are about winning on Saturday."
