HUDDERSFIELD Town's Anthony Gerrard has given up the No6 shirt – at his own request.

The centre-back will switch to No39 for the new Championship campaign, when he again aims to partner captain Peter Clarke (5).

Joel Lynch, out to stake his claim to face former club Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on the opening day, August 3, will again wear 33 and Murray Wallace 15.

That comes as sources at Town played down reports that Peterborough centre-back Gabriel Zakuani is a target.

Striker Jon Stead’s request to reclaim the No14 shirt he wore in his first spell at Town has been granted.

Fellow new frontman Martin Paterson will be 17 and winger Adam Hammill 12.

As Town continue to pursue strikers, both No9 and 18, worn by James Vaughan when on loan last season , remain free.
