Keith Southern aims to help Huddersfield Town kick Blackpool when they’re down – and believes the Bloomfield Road faithful wouldn’t expect anything less.

The midfielder spent 10 years in tangerine before signing for Town in the summer of 2012.

It will be his second trip back after a 3-1 victory last season, and he’s desperate for another three points.

Blackpool are in trouble in the Championship, 18th and with just one win in 19 league matches.

Town are two places and six points better off and looking for a first win in four and Southern said: “We have definitely progressed as a club, but we have to be more consistent if we are to move on.

“On our day, we’ve got the beating of most sides in this division, but it’s not been our day often enough.”

On his old club’s plight, the 29-year-old said: “They made a great start, and expectations grew.

“But they have been on a real slide and are now in a dogfight.

“Barry Ferguson has taken over from Paul Ince as manager. I had a season alongside him as a player, and he’s a no-nonsense sort of bloke who will have them fired up and fighting.

“They need a performance, but so do we.”

Southern continued: “The fans over there are frustrated and I feel for them.

“They were great to me and I am very appreciative of the support I had throughout my time there and at my testimonial.

“But I’m a Town player now and I want a Town win.”
