HUDDERSFIELD Town and Millwall bosses Mark Robins and Kenny Jackett were united in praise of strikers Jermaine Beckford and James Vaughan.

The pair, on loan from Leicester and Norwich respectively, combined to hoist Town three places and three points above the Championship relegation zone.

Town now have 54 points, more than any side has ever gone down from the division with and just one less than Jackett’s Millwall, but Robins was quick to post a reminder that the job is not yet complete.

Town go to already-relegated Bristol City on Saturday before hosting Robins’ old club Barnsley, who are also in the drop zone, seven days later.

“They are two tough games and we have to be ready to put in the performances which will ensure we stay up,” said Robins after Town notched three goals in a home game for the first time this season.

“That was good. We could have won by more goals, and I thought the performances were excellent.

“We had some terrific attacking impetus and while we failed to take some chances early on, once we got the first goal, that settled us down.

“The finishes were excellent – exactly what we needed against a side there for the taking. The win was much needed, much wanted and much warranted.

“I’ll take two more performances like that, and certainly two more results like that!”

Millwall have four games to go, the first against 20th-placed Blackburn at The New Den tomorrow.

“Three of our remaining matches are at home and we have to make that count,” said Jackett.

“Our FA Cup run (to the semi-finals) probably hasn’t helped and it’s been a strange season.

“If we’d have got results over the last five matches we’d have been looking at the play-offs.

“That’s been the story of the season for so many sides. If we won a couple we were looking up, but a couple of losses and we were looking down.”

Jackett added: “We lacked energy and sparkle with the schedule we’ve had. We’re still in it, we need to get everyone behind us and we still need points.”

Millwall’s manager admitted defender Danny Shittu made “a poor mistake” in allowing Beckford to rob him before scoring Town’s opening goal, but added: “Beckford has finished it brilliantly. Beckford and Vaughan, on their day, are special.”
