WHAT a great start to the 2011/12 season for the Town Supporters Association with news of the appointment of our secretary, Robert Pepper, to the chair of the England and Wales Council of Supporters Direct (SD).

Two years ago Robert was re-elected to the board of SD where he is one of ten directors who are working towards the SD mission statement: “To promote sustainable spectator sports clubs based on supporters involvement and community ownership.”

SD has now set up three subsidiary councils, one for Scottish football trusts, one for rugby league trusts and one for football trusts in England and Wales, to which HTSA is affiliated and which will now be chaired by Robert.

If you would like to know more about Supporters Direct, not least the involvement with the recent Parliamentary Select Committee’s scrutiny of football governance, please visit: http://www.supporters-direct.org.

A turbulent 2010/11 season saw several changes to the HTSA committee and, in light of the challenges that we have set for ourselves for this season, we are now hoping for a much more settled period.

We have resolved some of our pre-season difficulties and are able to report full coaches to both of our midweek fixtures at Hartlepool and Cardiff.

If you are hoping to travel with HTSA this season it looks as though the best advice will be to book early.

Please remember, also, that ALL football coaches have a legal responsibility to be alcohol-free.

Places can be booked by calling into the St Andrew’s cabin, by texting or phoning Trev Whitehead on 07926 165863 or by emailing htsaway@gmail.com
