Jordy Hiwula is on the verge of becoming a Huddersfield Town player.

Sources suggest the England junior striker is heading to Spain to join up with Chris Powell’s squad on their training camp having agreed terms with the John Smith’s Stadium club.

Town are still awaiting final completion of the paperwork by Manchester City, who are currently on tour in Australia.

But Hiwula could feature for Chris Powell’s side in tomorrow’s friendly against Leyton Orient in Marbella.

Speculation over a switch from the Premier League to the Championship started a week ago.

With a year still to go on his City contract, the 20-year-old wanted time to weigh up his options.

Now Powell is close to completing his fourth summer signing after Australian international left-back Jason Davidson and midfielders Dean Whitehead and Kyle Dempsey.

Hiwula’s move will mean a reunion with Town’s first team coach Steve Eyre, who worked with him for five years in City’s extensive youth system.

And he will join fellow former City players Tommy Smith, Harry Bunn and Ishmael Miller at Town.

Goal poacher Hiwula is set to complete with Nahki Wells, James Vaughan and Miller for a frontline berth.

A Manchester-born United fan, he has had a decade at City, but was unable to make their expensively-assembled first team.

Having caught the eye for the Under 21s, he further boosted his reputation during a loan spell at League I Walsall last season, when he scored nine goals in 20 games.

He’s been on Town’s radar for more than a year.
