Philip Billing scored twice as Huddersfield Town Under 21s kicked off their Professional Development League campaign with a 4-1 win over Bristol City at PPG Canalside.

The home side, who made last season’s PDL II play-offs and are now under the leadership of Frankie Bunn following Steve Eyre’s promotion to first-team coach, didn’t have things all their own way.

Tom Fry soon curled home a slick City equaliser after Billing headed home from Jake Carroll’s 29th-minute cross.

But Ben Atkinson restored Town’s lead after 54 minutes, netting after Jacob Hanson’s shot was saved.

Billing made Town more comfortable after 82, when he converted from a Ben Holmes free-kick.

And Holmes struck in stoppage time, finishing at close range from a Hanson cut-back.
