But the young Blues hit back in the second half through Koby Arthur and Emmanuel Mbende.
City had needed keeper Jake Weaver to make saves from Jake Charles and Jack Boyle to stop Town doubling their advantage.
Town head to Coventry City on Monday (2.00) ahead of their fourth successive appearance in the play-offs.
