Huddersfield Town host Leeds United this weekend desperate to avenge for the humiliating 3-0 defeat earlier this season at Elland Road.

The Whites will actually be looking to secure a first double over their West Yorkshire neighbours since 1938/1939 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Town, who will be looking for back-to-back league wins for only the third time this season, must hope to evoke the spirit of several memorable encounters down the years to secure all three points in what is a sure to be a hotly-contested clash.

Here is our selection of just five to feast your eyes upon!

Leeds United 0-1 Huddersfield Town (Milk Cup) - 10 November 1982

Dave Gowling wrote himself into Town folklore - and secured a well-renowned song in the process - with the winning goal at Elland Road to sink Leeds as the Terriers advanced to round four of the League Cup, which was then known as the Milk Cup.

The winger headed a second-half winner to down the Whites in a season where Town also went on to secure promotion from the third tier of English football to resume their rivalry with their West Yorkshire neighbours.

Sadly, the Milk Cup adventure came to an abrupt halt in the fourth round with a 1-0 defeat at Highbury to Arsenal.

Colin Russell (left), with the unwitting assistance of Leeds United defender Martin Dickinson, puts Town 1-0 ahead in the Boxing Day clash at Elland Road

Current academy coach Mark Lillis stunned Elland Road once more just over a year later as Town secured a first league win at the home of their famous rivals since a 1-0 success in 1963.

The Terriers' opener was scored by Colin Russell (above) before Lillis struck a second-half winner to send the travelling Terriers fans into delirium.

Lillis, who has had three spells as Town interim manager, played Leeds five times in the blue and white stripes and was never on the losing side.

Huddersfield Town (1) v Leeds Utd (0) - Andy Holdsworth

Andy Holdsworth was the Huddersfield Town hero on this occasion as he secured a first win over the old enemy since a 3-1 triumph at Leeds Road some 23 years previously.

His winner also enabled Town to gain revenge for a 4-0 demolition in the reverse fixture earlier that season against a Leeds side, who were reduced to 10 men after just 38 minutes when Jonathan Douglas received his marching orders.

Jon Worthington was then dismissed for the hosts after an altercation with Leeds man Lubomir Michalik but Town held their nerve to take a 76th-minute lead through Holdsworth as he headed home a Joe Skarz cross.

Leeds United 1-2 Huddersfield Town - 15 November 2008

Leeds Utd v Huddersfield Town (1-2)Michael Collins scores Town's winning goal.

Beating Leeds was one thing after 23 years, but to seal a first win at Elland Road since Lillis hit the winning goal in 1983 was extra special for Town fans on the 25th anniversary of that 2-1 win.

And Town secured another here, with Michael Collins scoring a dramatic injury-time winner to break Leeds hearts.

The home side had established an advantage thanks to Robert Snodgrass' poked finish after just four minutes, but Town responded and levelled through Joe Skarz just seconds after the interval before Collins stole the show by turning in a Danny Cadamarteri cross.

Huddersfield Town's Jon Stead scores winner against Leeds United

Jon Stead's most famous goal may now be the one he produced at Stamford Bridge in helping Bradford City to a stunning 4-2 win over Chelsea, but the most memorable in Town colours came just last season.

Town actually fell behind in the second minute thanks to a Matt Smith header, before Danny Ward equalised eight minutes later with a powerful drive past Paddy Kenny.

Mark Robins' side took the lead just after the hour mark when Tom Lees diverted an Adam Hammill cross past his own goalkeeper but Dexter Blackstock pulled the visitors level with a headed goal before Stead's arrowed finish into the bottom corner late on sealed back-to-back wins over their arch-rivals.
