Leeds United have a dangerman who is being given every incentive to gun down Huddersfield Town.

The big West Yorkshire derby is looming on Saturday at Elland Road and David Wagner’s side have been warned to watch out for Mirco Antenucci, who scored in Leeds' 3-0 win at the John Smith's Stadium back in November.

Leeds’ in-form Italian ace has netted four times in his last three appearances as Steve Evans’ side have beaten Bolton, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers in succession – the last two away from home.

Town slipped five points behind their rivals in the Championship table on the back on Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to leaders Burnley, and Evans is revving up 31-year-old Antenucci to keep his run going against Town and earn a new contract in the summer.

His current deal runs out at the end of June and Evans said: “I said to him I’m going to put him in the team and I’m going to love him and give him chances.

“He can earn it or not earn it (a new contract)

“He is doing everything right. I love to work with good players and Mirco Antenucci is a good player.”
