POTENTIAL weekend opponents Wigan Athletic and Burnley both had scouts at Huddersfield Town’s clash with Cardiff.

Town will face their first Premier League opponents since Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round two seasons ago should they win at Leicester tonight to clinch a home fifth-round meeting with Roberto Martinez’s Latics on Sunday (3.55).

Otherwise it’s a first trip to Burnley since February 2001, when they lost 1-0 in a Championship clash, for a league game on Saturday (3.00).

Eryl Hughes was Wigan’s man at the John Smith’s while Burnley were represented by their senior UK scout Lee Maybury.

Spying on Town for Leicester was head of technical scouting Rob Mackenzie.

Other Premier League clubs present were Aston Villa, Liverpool, Norwich and Sunderland.

As well as Burnley, Championship scouts came from Brighton, Bristol City, Hull, Ipswich, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, who host Town in a Championship clash a week tonight.
