Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell watched Sean Scannell strike in spectacular style to help defeat Brentford 2-1, then said: “Who says he can’t score goals?”

The winger whose bright displays recently earned him a new contract notched Town’s 17th-minute opener and was instrumental as visiting defender Jake Bidwell scored a 49th-minute own goal.

“I see a player who is really enjoying his football,” added Powell, whose side conceded to Jonathan Douglas after 70 minutes at the John Smith’s but held out for the first win in five which lifted them to 15th in the Championship.

“I’m really pleased for Sean and all the players because it has been a tough period. We needed a win and we got it.

“It was a brave performance and I like the intensity we showed.”
