The Mirror's annual Premier League kit power rankings are back ahead of the new season and Huddersfield Town's 2017/18 offering does not fare too well.
Town revealed their new home strip ahead of the new campaign last week with a number of supporters taking to social media to express their dislike.
Leaked ahead of the official launch, Commercial Director Sean Jarvis also hit back at critics and their over-zealous responses to the shirt.
But it appears it doesn't stand up well according to the Mirror's league comparison either – finishing second bottom in the rankings, one place ahead of the 'bland' Swansea City entry.
Have a look at each home strip for next season and what these 'experts' have to say on each....
20. Swansea City (Down -5 from last season)
Let's be honest, it's not great is it? “It’s a bit boring and pretty much as I expected,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “Can’t see many home kits shifting,” said another. “Stuff the kit! New signings please!”
You get the picture. It’s fairly uninspiring and looks fresh from the Sunday League catalogue. Better luck next year eh, Swans…
19. Huddersfield Town (new entry)
To be honest, it’s not that bad. But my colleagues have successfully talked me into downgrading it. So blame them - not me (peer pressure and all that).
In fairness, on second glance, you can see why even some of their supporters are not happy with it… to such an extent they hacked the club’s official online store to slate it.
Sean Jarvis, the Terriers’ Commercial Director, hit back at the abuse on his Facebook account. He said: “I understand that some might like the kit and some not like the kit but to see some people use offensive language or to say that whoever designed it should be sacked – that is very poor. If you are one of those please unfriend me.” Like I said, it’s not THAT bad…
18. AFC Bournemouth (Down -12)
It’s difficult to revamp the red and black stripes look but this looks pretty much like the home kit they had last season, except with a fresh Umbro emblem.
So despite being a decent strip, it falls down 12 places in this year’s edition simply for not being different - even the shorts and socks are similar.
“I thought last year’s kit couldn’t be eclipsed, but this is even better.” At least Cherries’ fans are pleased with it. And that’s all we ask for. Honest.
17. Chelsea (Up +2)
Good news, Chelsea: You’re up two places from last season. The bad news: Yep, 17th. That’s not good. But who cares, you are the Champions.
Just a pity Nike couldn’t give a personal touch to their first instalment as the Blues’ kit suppliers. Yes, it’s elegant. No, it doesn’t scream “Champions”.
16. Manchester City (Down -5)
There’s a nice retro vibe to this shirt. In fact, I’m not sure why this is so low. We’ve officially lost the plot. Heads gone and all the rest of it… (and we’re only five home kits in).
15. Brighton & Hove Albion (New entry)
Brighton fans, you’d take 15th now wouldn’t you? Well that’s what you’ve got for this new Nike strip.
The two-tone blue stripe and sleeve combo just doesn’t work for us. We’re not fashion experts, so we don’t expect you to agree. That said, the yellow Swoosh and collar trim is a delightful bonus.
14. West Ham United (Down -5)
This is one of those “looks better in the flesh”. Apparently the V-style is retro (always retro isn’t it?). Unfortunately, there is no news of any imminent new signings waiting to wear it. Thankfully, for West Ham fans, the away kit is magnificent. Every cloud.
13. Leicester City (Down -10)
Remember when Leicester won the league? Well, they’re not quite ready to let it go yet. And rightly so. The new home kit features a distinct golden theme to bring back memories of the good old, glory days (which were 14 months ago, in case you wondered).
12. Stoke City (Up +1)
Stoke are on the up. And it’s the little touches that make all the difference. Blue piping on the collar, sleeves and sides really make this Macron number stand out.
Still, cue mixed reviews… “Does the kid who won the competition to design the new Stoke kit get a kit for his troubles, or can he avoid having to wear it? #RetroNoNo” Bit harsh.
11. Everton (Down -9)
How on earth did Everton finish second in our rankings last season? This kit is definitely better but it falls outside the top 10.
Which is generous according to one review on Facebook: “Did the designers forget to design our top until last night where they obviously threw one together. Plain, boring and quite frankly unbefitting of Everton FC. The jersey is quite simply not good enough for EFC, looks like something a championship team would wear, we will not be taken seriously when we don’t even look the part to begin with!”
10. West Bromwich Albion (Up +4)
The Baggies are bouncing with delight with their new Adidas kit. The all-navy back is the standout change - because, let’s face it, the front is as to be expected (navy and white stripes).
West Brom fans genuinely like it. “Very tidy,” quipped one. Deserving of a place in the top 10, then.
9. Southampton (Up +9)
As kit launches go, Saints take top marks. Their innovative cartoon-themed caper was so good it even managed a subtle dig at Liverpool (you know, because they always want to buy their best players).
As for the kit, stripes are gone. But this retro (yes, that’s the fourth time we’ve written that word so far) design is exceptionally good. Well, good enough for ninth (up nine places from last season when they had their traditional stripes).
8. Burnley (Up +8)
We’re big fans of this. Obviously not that big, however, otherwise it would be higher than eighth. The traditional claret and blue look is dominated by sky blue shorts and socks.
The buttoned collar, popular with hitmakers Puma this year, completes the stylish design. For £40, the shirt is a bargain.
7. Arsenal (Up +10)
From a distance it looks a lot like last season’s kit. But take a closer examination and you’ll find there are loads more red bits (this is top fashion analysis) and a new collar (with a button).
There’s a cannon on the back (somewhere) to celebrate 50 years of its inclusion on the shirt. Does that constitute as retro? We’re really not sure anymore....
6. Crystal Palace (Up +2)
This retro design (OK, we’ll stop it now) is very classy - we like the socks - and features the five boroughs at the heart of south London that converge at Palace on the back of the shirt: Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. Nice touch for smart shirt.
5. Watford (Up +2)
The Hornets welcome the three stripes and look the part. New boss Marco Silva will now hope they play the part because let’s face it, they were absolutely shocking towards the end of last season.
4. Newcastle (New entry)
It’s great to see Newcastle back in the Premier League. So great, in fact, that we’ve elevated them into the top four.
Forget the Championship… if kits were good enough for the Champions League this would definitely qualify.
3. Manchester United (Up +9)
Yes, this is the kit you saw leaked a thousand times already this summer. The whole button collar thing has caught on at Adidas too. Impressive. Maybe next year they will go for a zip?
2. Liverpool (Up +3)
This is without doubt, the best Liverpool home kit in years. But it just misses out on first place. We go again and all that jazz…
1. Tottenham (No change)
It’s happened again, it’s happened again, Tottenham Hotspur it’s happened again. Spurs are No.1 in our kit power rankings for the second successive season as their new Nike number takes top spot.
There isn’t much to say about it apart from it’s really, really, really, annoyingly nice (that’s if you don’t support Spurs). Well played… same again next year?
