HUDDERSFIELD Town goalkeeper Ian Bennett has signed a new deal to keep him at the Galpharm until next summer.

The 39-year-old joined Town on a one year deal from Sheffield United in summer 2010 and has made a total of 14 appearances for the team so far - with number 15 likely to come against Arsenal this Sunday due to an injury to Alex Smithies.

Town boss Lee Clark said Bennett had done 'fantastically' for the club so far.

He added: "Having played with Ian in the past I knew exactly what I was getting when I brought him to the club.

"His excellent performances are providing Alex Smithies with genuine competition for places and he has been a very positive influence in the changing rooms thanks to his experience and knowledge.

"It's great news for the club that he has agreed to stay for another season."

Bennett, who's also been between the sticks at Peterborough United and Birmingham City, said he was delighted to sign up for another year at Town.

He added: "My time here has been great and there is such a good atmosphere around the place.

"I would love to see out my playing career here and ideally I can do so in the Championship."
