Huddersfield Town's Cristian Lopez has joined Northampton Town on an emergency loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old Spaniard signed a one year contract at Town in the summer following a successful trial period, but he has only made four appearances as a substitute for the first team this season.

Most of his football at Town has come as an overage player for the Under-21 side, where he has scored six goals in nine starts.

He has also spent a month on loan at  League 1 side Shrewsbury Town in October, netting once in five appearances.

As per other emergency loans, Town will have a recall clause on Lopez after the first 28 days at Chris Wilder's side.

Huddersfield Town boss Mark Robins said: “Cristian is a superb professional and has worked very hard, but his opportunities have been limited this season. We took him on after his trial period, but he hasn’t been able to force himself into our team.

“We have talked to Cristian and want to give him every chance to impress others ahead of next season. This loan spell at Northampton Town gives him the opportunity.

“I know Chris Wilder well and I’m confident he will continue the upturn in form at Northampton and guide them to safety. Hopefully Cristian can help them do that and impress during his loan there. We wish him well.”
